Bite — Privacy Policy

Bite ("the Extension") is a Chrome extension that summarizes web pages and YouTube videos. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

1. Data We Collect

• Email address — used for account creation and authentication.
• Page URLs — the URLs of pages you choose to summarize are stored so you can access your summary history.
• Page content — text extracted from pages you summarize is sent to our server for processing and stored to enable the chat feature.
• Chat messages — questions you ask and responses you receive are stored to enable chat history.
• Authentication tokens — access and refresh tokens are stored locally in Chrome storage to keep you signed in.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To generate summaries of web pages and YouTube videos you request.
• To provide follow-up chat conversations about summarized content.
• To maintain your summary and chat history.
• To authenticate your account.

3. Third-Party Services

• Supabase — used for authentication and database storage. Data is stored securely on Supabase infrastructure.
• OpenAI — page content is sent to OpenAI's API to generate summaries and chat responses. OpenAI's data usage policies apply to this processing.

4. Data We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect browsing history beyond the pages you explicitly choose to summarize.
• We do not track your activity, clicks, or mouse movements.
• We do not collect financial, health, or location data.
• We do not use cookies or third-party trackers.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or transfer your personal data to third parties. Data is only shared with the third-party services listed above (Supabase, OpenAI) as required to provide the Extension's functionality.

6. Data Security

Your data is protected by row-level security policies ensuring you can only access your own summaries and chat messages. Authentication tokens are stored locally in Chrome's secure storage. All API communications use HTTPS encryption.

7. Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.

8. Your Rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us at the email below.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
